There was a guy on the atoll I used to live on that would tour the atoll every so often to pick "extra dogs" anyone had then he'd cook them all up, come back around and sell us plates of food. Since there's no way to spay or neuter dogs out there it helped keep the dog population in check - and yeah, the dogs he got were usually the "bad dogs" that were a pain to have around. That said I've only been offered dog once when a guy on the farm cooked some up - but I knew the dogs and the way he cooked it looked pretty gross and a little dodgy in the sanitary sense so I didn't eat it!Celeste Brashhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15320277479867366961noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7417784322197275588.post-24096235604570018602010-10-06T14:33:26.363-07:002010-10-06T14:33:26.363-07:00There's nothing quite like being around positi...There's nothing quite like being around positive, happy, optimistic people, who just lift everyone up. Thanks for the reminder! I'm going to work harder to be one of those good influences.

As a side note, did you ever happen to eat dog in Tahiti? As terrible as may sound (on a few levels), we had a family invite us to dinner in Faa'a once, and though they were a bit embarrassed because it's "poor man's food," that's what they had cooked. The father explained, "What better way could man's best friend serve him than by feeding him?" Seemed logical enough. Then his young daughter said, "Papa, isn't that the dog that bit you last week?" He snapped, "Shut up and eat your food!" then teased me that I might start howling at the next full moon.Ryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08170447830259089856noreply@blogger.com
